Additionally, the teacups needed to be both artistic and functional: comfortable to hold, practical for daily use, and perfectly weighted for a seamless drinking experience. This required meticulous attention to ergonomics, clay composition, and glaze harmony—where beauty meets utility.
03、Solution: Blending AI Design with Traditional Craftsmanship
To realize Mr. Li’s Wedding Anniversary Gifts vision, we adopted a hybrid approach—merging AI-driven design with time-honored artisan techniques.
- Story Mining through Interviews
We began with in-depth conversations to capture key moments: their first meeting at the library, the park where they had their first date, the seaside proposal, and the magnolia flowers they both adore. - AI-Generated Design Drafts
Using AI tools, we rapidly visualized these elements into abstract yet elegant patterns. The initial sketches featured goldfish (symbolizing harmony and abundance) and magnolia blossoms (representing purity and endurance), woven into a cohesive narrative layout.
- Artisan Refinement by Master Yang
Master Yang, a seasoned Jingdezhen overglaze painter, hand-adjusted the AI-generated designs. He ensured alignment with traditional porcelain aesthetics—enhancing brushstroke delicacy, color gradients, and compositional balance—while preserving the modern emotional resonance. - Final Design: Poetry in Form
The approved design features a scalloped floral-shaped cup silhouette, with magnolias gently unfolding along the body and goldfish swimming rhythmically—a metaphor for life’s flow and timeless love. The interior glazes are optimized for tactile comfort and daily usability.
04、Crafting Process: 45 Days of Artisan Dedication
Shaping the Clay Body
Based on the selected cup shape, high-quality kaolin clay was hand-thrown on the wheel to achieve an elegant form and comfortable grip. The body was meticulously trimmed three times to refine its silhouette and create a flawlessly smooth surface.
Glazing and Initial Firing
A transparent glaze was hand-applied to ensure even coverage, enhancing the natural purity of the porcelain.
High-Temperature Firing (1300°C)
The glazed pieces underwent a primary firing at 1300°C, resulting in vibrant clay coloration and a mirror-like, luminous glaze surface.
Hand-Painting the Design
Master Yang personally painted the design using traditional ceramic pigments. Employing the Xincai (overglaze) technique, he skillfully outlined and shaded the patterns—layering goldfish and magnolia blossoms with delicate gradient effects to create depth and movement.
Second Firing (800°C)
A second firing at 800°C fused the pigments permanently with the glaze, ensuring color durability and resistance to daily use while preserving the artwork’s brilliance.
