The small vessels such as cups and bowls need dressing. When the biscuit has approximately 60% dryness (it is firm enough not to be distorted when taking it by hands), remove the excess clay at the bottom of the cup with a fettling knife and knock the bottom with the handle or the back of the knife in order to press the clay tightly before put it on the biscuit board (or long board, square board). The purpose of the dressing is to effectively prevent the upper and bottom parts from being cracked due to inconsistent drying and shrinkage. Meanwhile, such a skill will reduce the labour intensity of workers busy with fine trimming and make full use of the excess clay.
